The Federation of State Board of Physical Therapy strives to be a membership-driven organization.
At the top of the organization are our member boards, made up of professionals, public members, and administrators. Each member board elects a Delegate and Alternate Delegate to attend the annual Delegate Assembly, where policy is set and direction is provided to the Board of Directors and staff. The member board also chooses and Administrator to attend the Annual Meeting, which includes a meeting of the Council of Board Administrators (CBA).
The Delegate Assembly elects the Board of Directors, who represent the 53 member boards as a whole. On the Board of Directors, there will be current members of member boards, former members of member boards, administrators of member boards, and public members. Our public member position is relatively new, and brings a fresh perspective to the Board when it considers what is best for public protection. The Board provides ongoing leadership to the Federation through a strategic planning and goal setting process.
The Delegate Assembly and Board of Directors also elect or appoint members to committees and task forces. These volunteers take the initiative on various issues facing member boards and provide practical recommendations to the Board of Directors.
In a member-driven organization, staff “finishes last.” Staff members are guided by direction from the Board of Directors and policies approved by the Delegate Assembly. Staff members work hard to listen to the needs and recommendations of jurisdiction board members, as well as committee and task force members. One of the foundations of this dynamic organization is a real sense of teamwork between staff and Federation volunteers that motivates staff to excel and continually improve their service to the membership.
