PEAT FAQs

You asked, we answered

Below are a set of frequently asked questions (FAQs) for the practice exam and assessment tool (PEAT). We recommend that you review the FAQs before you order PEAT.

Has PEAT been updated for the 2018 Content Outlines?

  • Yes! At this time, PEAT users have the choice of taking PEAT that corresponds to the October, 2017 testing date, or a version that has been updated for testing dates in January 2018 and later. After the October testing date at your exam level has passed, PEAT will only offer versions corresponding to 2018 testing dates.

What do I get?

  • Two timed examinations with the “look and feel” of the actual physical therapist (PT) exam or physical therapist assistant (PTA) exam. Each practice exam can be taken one time. Practice exam questions have been developed by experienced clinicians and item writers in the same format as the NPTE.
    • One retired NPTE form that will give you an estimated NPTE score based on previously used items.
    • One practice form that will give you an estimated NPTE score based on a score linking process. If you purchased PEAT between September 2012 and June 2014, the current practice consists of items from the version of PEAT you already purchased.
    • An exam interface that is very similar to the interface used for the NPTE, including the same exam navigation options and section and break timing.
    • The ability to select timing options if you plan to take the NPTE with a timing accommodation.
    • The ability to mark items for later review.
    • The ability to strike through text (e.g., to eliminate incorrect response options).
    • The ability to pause your exam if you are interrupted or cannot take the exam in one sitting.
  • An immediate, online performance report in that is very similar to the NPTE Performance Feedback Reports to see how well you did on the practice exam and to show you what you need to study.
  • Access to completed examinations in “study mode”, which provides:
    • Rationales explaining the reasons behind the correct answers;
    • References for further research; and
    • The ability to review questions by right/wrong, marked/unmarked, content area, body system, or section.
  • The option to start either exam first.
  • Supplemental materials to download and print. These are yours to keep. You can also purchase printed copies of these materials for an additional $55 if you choose not to download them. The supplemental materials include information about NPTE construction, tips on how to use the test blueprint and PEAT in your exam preparation, and more.
  • As much time as you need to review the supplemental materials; your access days are not counted until you log onto the first practice examination.
  • The ability to log on and off at will—the computer will remember your place.
  • The opportunity to request additional access time at a discounted rate.
  • The ability to print a certificate of completion if required by your school or jurisdiction.

*There is only one version of PEAT. If you purchase PEAT a second time you will receive the same two practice exams.

What does my computer need to enable me to use PEAT?

  • PEAT is compatible with most browsers. We cannot ensure that PEAT will work with all versions of browsers and all versions of operating systems. If you experience difficulty, consider trying to relaunch PEAT in one of the following browsers: Internet Explorer 10 or 11, the latest version of Firefox and Chrome and Safari on the PC. We will update this list when additional browsers and operating systems become available.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader installed and operational (downloadable free from the site).
  • 2 MB of free hard disk space.
  • 32 MB of RAM.
  • 56K connection to the Internet or faster; slower connections can be used but with decreased performance.
  • You must allow “pop ups.” If your internet service provider or web browser has a “pop up blocker”, you will need to disable it.

What are the costs associated with PEAT?

  • PT PEAT - $99 (60 day access)
  • PTA PEAT - $99 (60 day access)
  • Extension of time - $50 (15 day extension)
  • Printed supplemental materials - $55*

Why should I use PEAT?

  • PEAT has been developed by the organization that administers the NPTE. What better source for a practice and assessment tool to help you prepare for this critical step on your career path?
  • Many of the questions on PEAT are actual retired NPTE items. PEAT will give you an estimate of your NPTE score if you had taken the NPTE on that day.
  • Practicing with a timed examination will help you learn how to pace yourself for the real NPTE.
  • PEAT provides you with a rationale for why the correct answer for each question is correct. Understanding the rationales is an important component of exam preparation.
  • Familiarizing yourself with the exam interface and types of questions you will see is effective at reducing test anxiety.
  • If you are not familiar with taking a computer-based exam, PEAT mimics the actual NPTE delivery very closely. You can learn on PEAT so you will be comfortable when you take the NPTE.

How does PEAT compare with exam review materials?

  • It is the only practice and assessment tool that comes to you from the people who develop, maintain and administer the NPTE. You can rely on the format and questions to give you a feel for the real thing.
  • It provides you with immediate and automatic scoring for your timed, online practice examination.
  • You receive a detailed performance report by content area and system.
  • Rationales and references provide you with the resources to increase your knowledge.
  • You get a clear picture of your knowledge base and what you most need to study.

How do I order PEAT?

  • Go to pt.fsbpt.net to order online using a credit card (Visa or MasterCard). You will receive an e-mail within 2 hours which gives you instructions on accessing the website.
  • Remember that the countdown on your access time does not begin until you actually access the first practice examination.
  • Supplemental materials are provided online at no cost when you purchase PEAT. If you would like a printed version of the supplemental materials, go to pt.fsbpt.net. Supplemental materials are only available for people who have a current PEAT subscription.

How do I order a PEAT extension?

  • If you would like to request additional access time at the rate of $50 for 15 days, proceed to pt.fsbpt.net to order online using a credit card (Visa or MasterCard). You will be asked to enter the product key for the PEAT that you are purchasing the extension for.
  • Remember that if you purchase an extension before the 60 days of access expires the 15 day extension will begin the day after PEAT expires.  If you purchase the extension after the 60 days of access expires, the 15 day extension begins on the date of purchase.
  • Please note that purchasing an extension does not provide additional access to retake PEAT if both exams have already been completed.  It will only provide access to review the completed exams and the corresponding reports.
  • Extensions must be purchased within 30 days after PEAT expires. Only one 15 day extension may be purchased per product key.
