Home-> For Faculty -> Faculty Newsletter -> 2007 Second Quarter

The NPTE Quarterly Faculty Newsletter is published by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) as one mechanism to communicate with faculty in physical therapist and physical therapist assistant programs. This effort to provide ongoing communication includes current information and updates on the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) as well as information on other regulatory issues that might impact or be of interest to program faculty. Subscription to the newsletter is free to all physical therapist and physical therapist assistant program faculty. Please contact communications@fsbpt.org for subscription information, feedback and comments.

Update on Recommendations from Faculty Advisory Task Force

In January of 2006, a group of faculty representatives met with key FSBPT staff and Board Members to improve the school reports, the school report purchase process and the faculty webpage. It has been a while since we updated you on our progress toward implementing these groups’ recommendations, so we wanted to give you a status report.

Because all of these projects are interconnected, the entire project is fairly large. We have experienced some delays caused by both external and internal factors and the project is taking longer than originally envisioned. At this point, we are developing requirements documents and should be working on implementing the improvements later this fall. Our current projected completion date for all three components is mid-2008. We hope the improvements are well worth the wait!

What Students Need to Know

Summer is the busiest time for testing and it’s especially important for students to plan ahead to ensure that their test experience is as stress free as possible. The following tips will help your students navigate through the process:

  • Carefully and thoroughly review the NPTE Candidate Handbook. All the information you need to know about the exam and exam administration is included in the handbook. The Candidate Handbook can be found online at www.fsbpt.org.
  • Because this is the busiest time of year, test sites can fill up fast! It is in your best interest to schedule your appointment as soon as possible after receiving your Authorization to Test letter. Scheduling early means you will have a better chance of securing an appointment at the testing center of your choice on the date and time of your choice. If you wait to schedule your appointment, you may not find a testing center close to you that has appointments available.
  • Check your ID. Make sure that you have two forms of ID that are currently valid and have the same name as the name on your ATT letter. The name on your ATT letter is the name that has been submitted to Prometric and your ID must match that name exactly. You will not be admitted to the testing center without proper identification.
  • Confirm your appointment date and time. Take advantage of Prometric's automated confirmation system that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call 800-796-9857 a week or two before your appointment to be sure that what you have written down as your appointment date and time is what Prometric has in their system as well.
  • Last but not least…verify the directions to the test site. It is a good idea to look up the location of the testing center on a map prior to your appointment date. The testing center may provide you with directions but they may not be the quickest route from your location and may not take into account construction or heavy traffic points along the way. You may want to take a “test run” prior to your test day to ensure that you know where the center is located, how long it takes to get there, and where to park.

This Quarter’s Question

Do you offer discounts for group purchases of the Practice Exam & Assessment Tool (PEAT)?
Yes. We offer a 20% discount if you register a group of 15 or more students for PEAT. To purchase a group registration, you’ll need to call Kathy Grayson (see FSBPT Staff Contact Information by going to About FSBPT/Organization/Staff in the left hand navigation). She will send you a PEAT Group Purchase Registration Form and an instruction form for student to register for PEAT. Once each student has registered and provided you with their Transaction Number, you can return the PEAT Group Purchase Registration Form with payment to Kathy. After the payment has posted, each student will receive a PEAT email with their product key number and instructions for logging on. You will also receive this information so that you can assist your students.

HINTS

  1. Many times, students will see the following message when they log on to PEAT. “Thank you for visiting FSBPT. PEAT is now running in another browser window.” In this case, the student will need to disable their pop-up blocker in order to see PEAT.
  2. PEAT can only be accessed through Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser – no other browser will work.
