This workshop is designed to provide educators with an increased knowledge of the National Physical Therapy Examination program, which may benefit their program and students.


  • How to write better multiple-choice questions for your exams that follow the same format as the NPTE
  • How to statistically analyze your test questions to determine if they are good questions
  • How the NPTE is developed from content outline through scoring
  • How to prepare your students for the test administration experience
  • How to interpret and use your school pass rate reports
  • And much more.

Tentative Daily Agenda
Saturday, October 5, 2019: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Receive expert psychometric training on writing multiple-choice test questions that more accurately test your students' understanding of the material.

  • Learn to use item statistics to analyze items that you use on your exams
  • Understand the characteristics of "good" multiple-choice test questions
  • Review the barriers to writing good test questions
  • Practice writing test questions and receive feedback on your practice questions

Sunday, October 6, 2019: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Review NPTE test development.

  • Review the steps used to construct the NPTE
  • Review the psychometric principles used to develop "high stakes" exams
  • Review what students need to know about applying for and taking the NPTE
  • Review the analysis of PT and PTA practice and how it is used to update the NPTE
  • Receive assistance with interpreting school reports
  • Discuss the issue of cheating
  • Discuss your questions, concerns and issues regarding the NPTE

Additional Information
Participants should bring a laptop or mobile device on which to write items and take notes. Participants should also consider bringing a textbook to use when writing items.
Participants will be given materials on a USB flash drive. Printed materials are available at a fee of $45.

Refunds Policy:
Refunds will be issued for conditions of hardship at the discretion of the FSBPT’s Board of Directors. A refund process fee may be assessed.
