2024 NPTE Content Outlines Approved

Over the summer of 2022, the PT and PTA Practice Analysis Task Forces completed reviewing the practice analysis data collected between 2018 and 2022. FSBPT compiled their recommendations regarding updating the content of the NPTE and presented them to key external stakeholders for additional commentary. The task forces’ recommendations were approved by the Board of Directors at the Annual Education Meeting, and FSBPT will begin making the changes public within the next few weeks. The 2024 Content Outlines will be effective in January 2024 and will feature a redesigned NPTE test form with approximately 10% fewer questions and will include video and scenario-based questions. Please be on the lookout for information on these changes on the FSBPT website , the FSBPT Forum, and Faculty Newsletter.

Basis for Action Codes Webinars

The National Practitioner Data Bank is releasing a new set of Basis for Action codes on Dec. 16, 2022. The FSMB along with representatives from ASPPB, ASWB, FSBPT, FSMB, NABP, NBCOT and NCSBN worked with the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) to review the NPDB’s basis codes and provided recommendations for improvement. On behalf of the participating organizations, the NCSBN is hosting four educational webinars to explain the upcoming changes. FSBPT encourages members and stakeholders to join one of the webinars .

“DPT”: Is it a Protected Term in Your Jurisdiction?

Some personal trainers at a large fitness club chain are using DPT as their professional credential. Life Time is a large chain of health clubs that originated in Minnesota and has expanded to other states. Life Time advertises its unique philosophy to personal training, known as Dynamic Personal Training , which strives to keep the client completely engaged by partnering in many exercises with the trainer. At least one jurisdiction has received multiple complaints that Life Time personal trainers are using DPT to denote themselves as a dynamic personal trainer. The term DPT is protected in the practice act of many jurisdictions and prohibits the use of DPT if not licensed as a physical therapist.

If your jurisdiction has updates on steps or actions you have taken regarding this issue, please let us know at communications@fsbpt.org .

Take FSBPT’s Money!

Alabama, Indiana, Iowa, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, and Texas have recently taken a big step toward both administrative efficiency and protecting the public. They will leverage FSBPT funds to update their electronic systems, use the FSBPT ID, and send data to the Examination, Licensure, and Disciplinary Database (ELDD).

Your state should be next!

Thanks in part to savings experienced by holding virtual meetings and the recent overall investment performance, FSBPT’s board was able to set aside a $2.2 million grant for FSBPT member jurisdictions. Jurisdictions can apply for grants to fund consulting, programming, data entry, technological upgrades, and other activities that enhance updates to the ELDD.

We encourage you to reach out to Alabama, Indiana, Iowa, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, and Texas to learn more about how they are using this great resource. Please also let us know how we can help!
